Junior Rifle Program

The 2019 Winter Junior .22 program will be starting this month. Signups will be ONLINE on Tuesday, January 8th. The sign-up form will be on the Mother Lode Gun Club website. Due to class size any boys or girls, must be at least 10 years old and up to 20 years of age and are welcome. Juniors need to be signed up by a parent or guardian on line. There is limited space, so first come, first served till the class is filled.

 

Tuesday, January 15th, at 6 PM, is the first class featuring a mandatory interactive lecture for all those juniors who are new and have not participated in at least two previous lectures and payment of $35.00 for the class for those accepted. Payment will be expected the first night of class.

 

Program Goals of the Mother Lode Gun Club Junior Association: 


1. Provide an opportunity for young people of all races, creeds, and sex to learn firearms safety and basic marksmanship. 


2. Use the shooting sports as a vehicle to help young people develop leadership, discipline, concentration, sportsmanship and responsibility.

 

3. To develop participants ability to become successful competitive shooters as individuals and/or part of a team. 


4. Introduce the shooting sports to community members and educate them about shooting. 


Jim Owen is the NRA director and will be accompanied by Roger Wilson as assistant along with Robert Taylor and members of the California Grizzlies Juniors Rifle Team, past and present. This program is open to all youth from Tuolumne and surrounding counties. No previous shooting experience is required. ALL juniors must be accompanied by a PARENT or LEGAL GUARDIAN. Parents are requested to attend the sessions with their juniors. BBQ will be available 5-7. The cost covers all the supplies and equipment required for the program. Firearms, ammunition and targets are provided. The program will be held on the 50 foot indoor range, and will run consecutive Tuesdays. The final meeting will be a special Awards for all participants and their family members at the MLGC clubhouse on Tuesday, March 5th. For questions can call 209 743-1773.


2018 Fall Junior Program Results


Forty two juniors just finished the first .22 program at the Mother Lode Gun Club in two years! Led by Jim Owen and Roger Wilson with the aid of former and current California Grizzlies plus 4H leader Steven Treat, the program concluded with awards tonight. Those at the top of their particular class received not only certificates from the club, but special certificates from the offices of California Assemblyman Frank Bigelow and US Congressman Tom McClintock.

 

Juniors came to participate from Tuolumne, Moccasin, Altaville, Soulsbyville, Twain Harte, Groveland, Jamestown and Sonora. Signups for the Winter 2019 program will be the first Tuesday in January online.
